Review: Miguel at Sonos Studio
There’s nothing better than copping a new album, keeping it on repeat for a few weeks and then seeing said artist soon afterwards. Blessed to live in a city that provides this opportunity on the reg, I couldn’t pass up the chance to see Miguel at Pandora (who’s played him over a billion times- felicidades on this accomplishment) and Sonos Studios’ sponsored event last night. First put onto Miguel’s music through fam word of mouth, I rabidly consumed the underground mixtapes, “All I Want Is You” album, “Art Dealer Chic” EPs and couldn’t get enough of the West Side soulful rock sex symbol.
Returning recently with his third album ‘Wildheart’ which pays homage to his beloved city, being a weirdo outsider and the real torturous and passionate moments in a relationship, this new offering’s been in my heavy rotation naturally. Taking the small intimate platform after 9 PM on a cool summer night, Miguel performed crowd favs from all three albums including “Sure Thing”, “How Many Drinks?” and Grammy award-winning “Adorn”. In between songs, Miguel revealed his inspiration for his new album and the desire to live one’s truth as we all define individually “what’s normal anyway”. Using every bit of the stage, Miguel def left some ladies in the crowd fantasizing about his “coffee in the morning”.
