Spread the love!

Blessed to live in a city that provides great live music choices all the time, it takes something special to move a crowd and pack a venue to sweaty capacity hours in advance. Red Bull Sound Select’s latest monthly showcase which featured Jurassic 5’s Cut Chemist (who just recently wrapped a European tour) and Basecamp provided such an opportunity. Held in the legendary Del Monte Speakeasy steps away from Venice Beach, LA repped full force.

Being in LA and no stranger to Cut Chemist’s career with Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, I also attended his Renegades of Rhythm tour featuring records from Afrika Bambaataa’s impressive collection with DJ Shadow in 2014 at the Palladium. Recently I got a chance to connect with Cut before his Sound Select show about a myriad of topics. Peep the soundclips below where we chat about sharing stages with DJ Premier, Kurtis Blow, hypothetically meeting Bob Dylan, riding around with Biz Markie in a Cadillac, natural J5 chemistry, 2016 new music and more!
