Having the privilege to be a music and art fan in Southern California provides unique opportunities to first see inspiring artists live and in the fortuitous case of Olivia Rodrigo, get up close and personal with handmade items and sets from one of the best videos of the year “the cure”. After capping off August with her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields Fest in Irvine which assembled the coolest lineup of all female avengers and heroes not witnessed in decades for worthy causes desperately needing attention, the following week The Grammy Museum kept the positive vibes flowing opening their latest exhibit “Olivia Rodrigo: the cure unraveled” celebrating the art direction and craft behind one of Olivia’s statement videos off her third #1 album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love”.

From the moment you walk onto the museum floor, you are met with bright, pastel sets, vivid artwork and lifelike cardboard props that transport the visitor back to the hospital, visually displaying the care, creativity and skill still appreciated to level up a great song on its own. As a Southern California native, Olivia reflected back on the momentous occasion having been a student going to the Grammy Museum as a child and having a “full circle moment” being featured there “meant so much to her” as she couldn’t wait for her Livies to see it in person. While previewing the exhibit before it opened to the public on September 2, I chatted with Kelsey Goelz, Grammy Museum Director of Exhibits and Curator, about Olivia’s importance in pop history and the must-see items we all should view, putting her own talent and veneration for the featured artists and the behind-the-scenes creative process needed to yield memorable works of art on display with every exhibit opening.
