INTERVIEW: A Tribe Called Quest’s Jarobi White
A Tribe Called Quest needs no introduction. Anyone listening to rap during the cherished 90’s era STILL knows all the choruses and verses by heart. Jumping on each other’s tracks within the Native Tongues collective blew our minds. When “Sometimes Y” member Chef Jarobi White ventured to the West Coast for his Eats, Rhymes and Life events with his culinary company during Labor Day Weekend(where fellow ATCQ member Ali Shaheed Muhammad provided music poolside), I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask the in-depth questions Tribe heads have always wanted to ask.
As the 25th Anniversary Edition of ‘People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths of Rhythm’ drops TODAY, with a few new remixes by Pharrell, Cee-lo and J. Cole, the quartet have reunited like a 90’s hip-hop miracle to celebrate this monumental debut with an upcoming appearance on Fallon’s ‘Tonight Show’ tonight and a release party tomorrow night. I touched base with Jarobi before this recent whirlwind began to chat about Tribe early days, WTF moments with Magic Johnson and Shaq, meeting Stevie Wonder and Prince, what he really thinks of Rappaport’s ATCQ documentary and the best things about working with Blacksheep’s Dres in duo evitaN. Peep the soundclips below and go cop THIS and THIS!!
