Prepped and primed for a deservedly epic, historic year, So Cal Long Beach legends Sublime returned to the musical forefront this week, announcing their fourth “epilogue to the epilogue” album “Until The Sun Explodes” will release on June 12, 2026. For those of us global Day 1’s who’ve loved the band since 1994’s “Robbin’ The Hood” and the unforgettable self-titled album, with its approaching anniversary later in July being capped with celebratory plans, this news couldn’t have come at a better time. The albums and much discussed stage performances in the mid 90’s perfectly encapsulated an attention-grabbing emerging ska punk movement and moment, connecting with people like me, nowhere near So Cal at the time but could identify with the humorous mayhem, gloriously captured on footage required to be seen by new and older fans alike right now.
Los Angeles’ Grammy Museum, doing its part to importantly recognize the LBC repping trio, opened its latest exhibit on Friday, “Sublime: Straight From Long Beach”, featuring prized artifacts found nowhere else. A smashed guitar, Bradley Nowell’s hat and chain, handwritten lyrics, Gwen Stefani’s personal note, Maggie Thomas’ monumental live stage photos including one flawlessly blending Bradley and Jakob Nowell, poster art and more, the journey blends nostalgia with neon colors for a memorable visual and sonic ride, worth its time to explore.
Previewing this creative collection a few days prior, I luckily got a chance to connect with Jakob Nowell and Eric Wilson to chat about their upcoming fest plans and the latest Travis Barker produced effort “Until The Sun Explodes” featuring Billboard Alternative Airplay chart-topping “Ensenada” and collabs from Bad Brains’ H.R. and G Love. Amid the vibrant museum pieces, I also connected with the exhibit’s curator Kelsey Goelz who chatted with me about its personal significance and the labor of love putting it together.
