As we head towards the latter half of 2025, it’s time to begin looking back at the year’s best songs released so far. One such song to which I keep returning immediately is Fear of Water’s remix take on DMX’s classic ‘X Gon Give It To Ya’. Loud, brash and hype, harkening back to the 90’s hip-hop/rock mashups I always loved, the song led me down an exploration of Fear of Water’s Dave Perry’s impressively amassed discography featuring rock and metal heavy hitters like Clint Lowery, Marco Leal, Jesse Leach and Heidi Shepherd. Entering the world clinically deaf, his career thus far’s been a testament to his expertly developed multi-instrumentalist producer ear, fortitude and talent.
