As 2025 fades into the distance, those in Los Angeles will never forget how the top of 2025 began. Devastating and life-altering wildfires raged through beloved communities around its neighboring vicinities, destroying all semblance of normalcy for those affected. Among those hardest hit were professionals of all facets of the music industry, trying to pick up the pieces of things lost and left behind. Offering a health and wellness clinic free of charge in mid-December, MusiCares held this event to connect those still struggling to get back on their feet with vital mental health services, hearing support, vision care and physical therapy. While there, many shared their personal accounts of the tragedy impacting their tight-knit community and appreciated the assistance. One attendee shared regarding the financial and emotional price of losing it all:
“Even the jeans I’m wearing today were donated. I lost everything, my house, my family’s history here, the instruments I’ve toured with for decades. What’s kept me grounded is the support from my community, and MusiCares especially. They covered my relocation, my house note, and helped replace the instruments I lost. There’s still so much to figure out, but MusiCares has been there filling the gaps.”
Besides dealing with trauma, mortgages on properties no longer standing and missing cherished lost instruments supporting their careers, access to crucial medical care at events like these, eases the burden and offers ministration in a tangible way. Although it will take years to piece lives back together, it’s nice to know MusiCares will be there to support the rebuild, every step of the way.
