Kicking off Halloween month festivities, Saturday morning cartoon lovers recently descended upon the Dynasty Typewriter theatre in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate one of the great ones-the 40th anniversary of “The Real Ghostbusters”. Spun off from the legendary movie franchise, the TV series delighted and frightened children for five years featuring phenomenal voice work with beloved characters Slimer and secretary Janine Melnitz. Voice actor Eric Bauza, who we just unexpectedly and untimely lost, joined a talented cast onstage for an episode script reading held by Saturday Morning Cartoons United featuring Phil Lamarr, Laraine Newman, Maurice LaMarche, Derek Mears and Laura Summer and brought the iconic series back to new nostalgic life. With part of the event’s proceeds benefitting the Starlight’s Children’s Foundation, the afternoon boisterously banged as 80’s cover band The Flux Capacitors ripped through a lively hour set before the reading, setting the tone for the lively gathering. Geekyvsfan’s video below couldn’t have captured the event vibe I felt more perfectly.
After the event, I connected with The Flux Capacitors to chat about their interesting band journey, hypothetical teen dream fests, playing Stan Lee’s birthday party, future plans involving Back to the Future and more. Any interview featuring a harmonica solo is a good time. Check out the interview soundclips below and visit HERE for more band info!
